June 25th, 2021, President Uhuru Kenyatta had visited Kitui County during the official launch of the Marian Shrine of Our Lady of Protection in Museve.
It was anticipated that the head of state will visit the county again in a two-day tour of Ukambani, events that have since been canceled due to “covid-19 fears”, but who are we kidding?
There had been unnerving over the perceived unfair distribution of the ‘Handshake goodies’ with the president visiting Nyanza in May and unveiling several projects.
On his already canceled two-day development tour, the Head of State was also expected to visit Machakos and Makueni counties.
It is very difficult for anyone to convince Kituians that the president’s visit would have posed a threat in their region more than it did when he toured Nyanza in May.
What is obvious though is the lack of notable projects worth the president’s launch. Kicotec still remains the only Governor Ngilu’s project as well as the Kibwezi – Mutomo road which the president had already launched – before.
It is an embarrassing to take the president all the way to Musila Gardens to launch donkey husbandry, or to the Beehives somewhere in Mutha, something his team must have realized early enough and called off the visit.
