Spraying of Swarms of Desert Locust comprising of immature and mature which invaded different Villages in Mutha and Kanziko Wards in Kitui South Sub County started on 31st Dec 2019.
According to the reports from the office of Kitui County Deputy Governor DR. Wathe Nzau, aerial spraying was done at Kyanyanga Village in Kanziko Ward using Aircraft because, use of motorized pumps mounted on vehicles did not work due to poor terrain, infeasibility, and thick vegetation cover.
Kitui Daylight has learned that the technical team from Plant Protection Services and FAO are using the helicopter for surveillance, to make sure all the locust’s roosting sites are noticeable for spraying.
I want to assure our people in Kitui South that, as Kitui County Government, we are keenly keeping vigilance to establish where the desert locust will roost tonight, to inform the Pilot and his team for a quick action. Kitui County DG said
The spraying is said to have delayed because of misty and rainy weather, which was not favorable for the Aircraft to do aerial spray.
I sincerely thank the entire team from both the National Government and County Government, for choosing to spend their holiday far from their family members, to rescue Kitui residents from these Swarms of Desert Locust, which have invaded our County for the second time. – DG Wathe Nzau
