Juja MP Francis Munyua Waititu, popularly known as Wakapee, succumbed to brain cancer on Wednesday 22nd February 2021.
The second term legislator was popular in Juja, where he had spent his life working as a farm manager before he made his breakthrough in the political field. Francis Munyua was born to squatter parents who worked in various farms within Kiambu county. He considers it luck that he was able to go to school and would later come back to work as a farm manager in the same place.
The late MP worked in various farms, including for kenyatta’s family before trying his hand in politics. The fact that he worked on farms gave him a good time to interact with people in the constituency, eventually winning the Juja Constituency seat in 2013.
Wakapee and Alcoholism
The MP admitted that he was a lover of the bottle for a long time, a fete that earned him the nickname Wakapee. He used to buy beer for many people and that is how they nicknamed him wakapay because he would always pay. This is the name that evolved to Wakapee, and it has been adopted in his political life.
In Juja, he is popularly known as Wakapee.
However, he quit alcohol after seeing the devastation that it was causing in Central Kenya and decided to live a clean life in order to be a role model in Kiambu County.
Battle with Cancer
Following the death of his sister, the MP urged his mother to get tested for cancer. The test was positive and the mother underwent treatment. However, the mother also encouraged him to get tested and the results turned positive.
This marked the long battle with brain cancer that the MP fought from 2017. He has been to India for treatment before eventually succumbing to the disease at MP Shah Hospital.
