Kitui County will celebrate International Women’s Day at Tharaka ward’s Ciampiu in Mwingi North Sub-county, Kwa Vonza market in Kitui Rural, Ikanga market in Kitui South, Kateiko market in Mwingi Central, and Kyamatu market in Kitui East.

According to the Kitui County Executive Committee Member for Gender, Sports and Culture Hellenah Kitheka, the event marked annually on 8th March offers an opportunity to reflect on the progress made, to call for change, and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.

This year’s theme “Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a Covid-19 World” celebrates the tremendous efforts by women and girls around the world in shaping a more equal future and recovery from the Covid 19 pandemic.

The event is also aligned with the priority theme of the 65th session of the commission on the status of women, “Women’s full and effective participation and decision making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality and empowerment of all women and girls.

Women at the county level have brought experiences, perspectives, and skills that have resulted in irreplaceable contributions to decisions, policies, and laws that work better for all.

The convention seeks to celebrate these women leaders during this year’s international women’s day through a social media campaign.
