Kitui County’s health ministry has begun the COVID-19 vaccination campaign with frontline health workers as the first group of people to receive the vaccine.

The county government received 9000 doses for the first phase of vaccination.

In his address to the media earlier today, Deputy Governor Dr. Wathe Nzau said the county marked a historic day for the milestone in the fight against covid-19.

The DG added that H.E Charity Ngilu, the governor-led administration will continue advocating for the compliance of the set protective measures to minimize and eradicate infections.

The exercise will be extended to other frontline workers among them security officers and other residents in the county onwards.

The vaccine program prioritized the health workers citing their high risk of exposure to COVID-19.

To this end, 787 of the tested citizens in the county have tested positive for the covid-19 with 23 people so far succumbing to the infection.
