Kenya’s first African Director of Education late Hon. Kyale Mwendwa was laid to rest at his rural home at Matinyani in Kitui West Subcounty.
H.E Governor Charity Ngilu venerated the late Kyale for laying the framework and value for education in post colonial Kenya, and his belief for a unified country.
In his speech, read by Governor Ngilu, President Uhuru Kenyatta lauded the late Educationist cum politician as a talented leader, a creator of opportunities for others and an entrepreneur in the education sector. He lauded him for attaining the prestigious ‘Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya and ‘Order of the Burning Spear’ awards.
The late Kyale was also a former Kitui West MP (1985-1992) and a Cabinet Minister in charge of Livestock (1986-1988). He was brother to the late; Ngala Mwendwa-former MP Kitui Central and Kitili Maluki Mwendwa Kenya’s first African Chief Justice (1968-1971).
Former Vice President and Wiper leader Dr. Kalonzo Musyoka, Ex Nairobi Deputy Governor Jonathan Mueke, former Kitui County MP Winfred Nyiva Mwendwa and MPs; Edith Nyenze-Kitui West, Dr. Makali Mulu-Kitui Central and Daniel Maanzo-Makueni Town among other leaders attended the send off ceremony
