In preparedness for the new Universal Health Care to be launched by the County Government of Kitui, the county is conducting a routine inspection of all hospitals across the county.

In her Kitui South Sub County tour Health and Sanitation CECM Dr. Winnie Kitetu visited Ikutha Level 4 hospital, Mutomo Mission hospital, and Kanziku Health center.

The CECM called on Kitui South residents to enroll in the new universal health care by Governor Charity as she seeks to better healthcare in the county.

In the new universal healthcare,(UHC) the county Government of Kitui seeks to enroll 100,000 households with each household paying 3000 shillings and a similar amount to be paid by the County Government.

According to Dr.Kitetu, the County Government of Kitui under the able leadership of Governor Charity Ngilu has allocated funds in the Health ministry to improve the lives of the people of Kitui.

She revealed the County’s, preparedness for UHC as follows:

The county has increased the number of medical facilities from 187 to 300 today thereby reducing travel distance and improving access.

Diagnostic equipment at the Kitui County Referral Hospital (KCRH) has been upgraded including a state-of-the-art CT Scan.

All the 14 Level 4 Hospitals have X-Ray facilities.

Operational theatres have been put in place in Ikutha, Kitui, Mwingi, Tseikuru, Mutitu, Zombe, Kanyangi, Mutomo, and Kauwi theatres are being finalized.

The Migwani Theatre is ready and will be launched soon, therefore, decongesting Mwingi Level 4.
The renal unit at KCRH is fully operational while the Mwingi one will open as soon as we employ a renal nurse in the FY 2021/2022.

The county has also overseen the most robust staffing of medical personnel ever witnessed in Kitui County.

The amenity wing at Kitui Referral Hospital is now operational and the Mwingi one will be opened soon.

Service delivery at the KTRH has now been streamlined to extreme efficiency and higher standards, with patients spending less time to be served.
